Project Summary
Overview
Hyderabad, India, Aug 21, 2019 – Amazon launched their campus in Hyderabad. It took 39 months and 18 million man-hours of work to build the new facility which accommodates more than 15,000 Amazonians. This is a state-of-the-art facility built to foster inclusion, creativity, and greater innovation on behalf of our customers.
The new campus has many enthrallments and a state of art cafeteria is one of them. The Amazon project team envisioned a flexible AV experience for the 1200 Amazonians Cafeteria to support small to large scale town halls in main hall, leadership keynotes and cultural events for employee engagement activities. The Amazon AV team engaged with various stakeholders including but not limited to Facilities, IT, Corporate Infrastructure Buildout (CIB), Public Relation, AV Operations and many other Amazonians going to use this facility.
During the requirement analysis, the AV team identified four major AV use cases, i.e. town halls, event production, team events and media play/broadcast during normal cafeteria operations. The following are the agreed high level AV system requirements:
• Café Audio & Video systems should be flexible to support any formal or cultural events.
• Displays installed as part of the solution must support content broadcast for non-event uses.
• The AV systems must cater for all-hands events for 200 to 1200 users in theater style seating and should be able to expand to additional 900 users in nearby spaces.
• The video conferencing facility must enable remote participation.
• Events must support recording and broadcasting beyond the campus when required.
• Accommodate small team only events in spaces like coffee shop, cutout area and dinning zones.
• Quiet zones must be configured for people to take quick phone calls or chat during events.
• AV design must be scale to support future needs of AV in additional spaces by adding equipment.
Main Challenges:
• The screen and stage are in North tower of the building and Full-fledged kitchen with serving counters is in South Tower. Linear distance between both ends of the building is over 200 meters.
• Being a café space maintaining intangible (Sound to Noise Ratio 25db and more) audio all the time was critical.
• The main café hall was built using glass and hard flooring which is not ideal for AV equipment functionality and possess challenges in managing effective sound and projection qualities.
High-level Solution:
• Earmarked areas across the cafeteria including main dining hall (wing-A) food serving area, cut-out zone, dining area and coffee shop installed with 75” Large Format Display and speakers to displays to broadcast content from any inputs (Cable TV or signage.) We provisioned Cable TV (aka DTH) and thin clients for signage.
• Audio system used for playing background music or DTH Audio.
• Content on each speaker and display can be managed individually or in cluster.
• Floor boxes for LAN, AV and Power Connectivity, stage monitors for effective audio, preview monitor for presenters are provided.
• The solution provides a movable stage during all hand for effective utilization.
• Two short-throw projectors with 208” motorized screen installed as a primary stage projection.
• 4 mics with push buttons are installed one each on 1st four columns for audience interactions. Push button provides functionality to unmute the mic, power on and recall a preset on focus light to illuminate the subject area and recall a present on camera to capture the audience member.
• Videoconferencing system enables for remote participation.
• Stage lighting were provided to illuminate the stage and presenter.
• Instrumental and vocal mic sets provided for live events.
• Cameras captures the stage and projected on the extended displays/projector.
• Projectors can be used to display the background graphics and the stage lighting system produces graphical images to enhance the overall ambiance.
• Graphical lighting system can project pre-saved lighting graphics during events.
• Seamless video windowing is provided for streaming and showcasing on extended displays and recording.
• AV control room near the stage to control the entire AV solution as well as providing monitoring.
Functions this space can cater:
• The main stage caters for all hands and events for 200 to 1200 Amazonian. The main hall can be configured using a touch panel or laptop.
• If the customer wants to engage employees in other wings or have overflow audience – we can extend the audio and visual from the event to display and speakers in coffee shop, dining area and cut out zones.
• If event is for a smaller audience a partition is placed to divide the main hall and rest of the space can be used as dining area and a few times may need to run multiple tracks.
• Team party can be organized in coffee shop, cutout zone or any other area. Content on screen and audio can be modified for audience as per request.
• A GUI control each component with preset to switch and control all modes of café.
• In case of no event, AV system to broadcast signage and cable TV.
This is example of delivering exceptional value by collaborating with stakeholders to define needs, functions and application. Applying relevant AVIXA and Industry standard such as Audiovisual Systems Design and Coordination Processes, Display Image Size for 2D Content in Audiovisual Systems (DISCAS), Projected Image System Contrast Ratio (PISCR), Audio Coverage Uniformity in Listener Areas to ensure quality and cost of the final product that meets the business needs. We ensure final product meet the project specification using AV System verification standard. The new design resulted in 75% saving while improving the experience by 78%. We observed a hike in demand for events with new space in production. On launch day, Café supported first S-team All-Hands from Amazon campus in India.
